Prominent Abia State Campaign Director Brutally Murdered: A Grim Streak of Political Violence Continues

Published on

In a harrowing act of brutality, the quaint town of Uturu in Abia State’s Isuikwuato Local Government Area bore witness to the savage killing of Maduka Zachary, popularly known as Power Zac. Zachary, the Campaign Director for the Labour Party (LP) during the 2023 general elections, was not just murdered but shockingly beheaded within the very walls of his residence.

Local sources have reported that this gruesome act occurred just days before the news came to light on September 13, 2023. The Abia-based news outlet, ALL FACTS NEWSPAPER, broke the story without pinpointing the exact day of this cold-blooded crime.

Zachary, An avid grassroots politician, dedicated his life to combating the escalating kidnap cases plaguing the Uturu vicinity of Isuikwuato. Beyond his political aspirations, he served as the Home Branch Chairman of the Uturu Union.

In the aftermath, the Assistant Superintendent of Police commented, “Mr Nmaduka was violently attacked, shot, and beheaded by unidentified assailants at a drinking joint in Amelechi Akpukpa community. As soon as we received this horrifying news, a collaborative force of police and army personnel rushed to the scene. Sadly, what they found was Mr Nmaduka’s lifeless body.” He reiterated their dedication to solving the crime, “The body has been shifted to Marist Mortuary Uturu, and our investigation is fervently underway.”

State LP Chairman Kecee Igara confirmed Zachary’s standing in the party and passionately pleaded with the security agencies, emphasizing, “This is not just an attack on an individual but a strike at the heart of our democracy. We must bring those responsible to justice.”

Tragically, such incidents aren’t isolated. Over the past six months, there have been disturbing reports of political figures facing threats and, sometimes, violent attacks as tensions rise in the run-up to the elections. The security agencies are under mounting pressure to restore safety and calm to the political landscape.

It remains to be seen how these shocking events will reshape the political landscape and public sentiment in the months leading up to the elections. However, the voice of the masses is clear – they demand justice for Zac and all victims of political violence.
