Vice President Shettima’s Inspiring Message on Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Anniversary

Vice President Kashim Shettima delivered a heartfelt message to Nigerians during a public lecture marking Nigeria’s 63rd Independence anniversary at the State House Banquet Hall. He reassured the nation that the sacrifices made by its citizens would not be overlooked and that commitments laid out by President Bola Tinubu’s administration are on track for realization.

Shettima emphasized the government’s focus on promoting economic self-reliance for every Nigerian, negating any dependence on inconsistent relief efforts. “As we reflect today, we acknowledge our nation’s resilience and progress,” he stated. “In the span of 63 years, our shared dedication and unity have enabled us to thrive, from Aba to Ogbomosho and onwards to Zaria.”

The Vice President used the anniversary as a platform to celebrate Nigeria’s status as Africa’s most populous country and its largest economy. He reminded citizens of their collective dream, stating, “Our commitment isn’t a mere electioneering gesture. Instead, our nation’s path is shaped by the genuine intent, innovative solutions, and unwavering commitment of its leaders.”

Laying out the administration’s ambitious goals, Shettima said, “Our mission includes driving food security, alleviating poverty, stimulating economic growth, and ensuring job creation. To achieve this, we are focusing on improving access to capital, fortifying national security, and fostering a conducive business environment.”

The Vice President was firm in the government’s stance on corruption and the rule of law, emphasizing that the realization of Nigeria’s potential depends heavily on its citizens’ active participation and collaboration.

Reflecting on the global challenge posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Shettima remarked, “This crisis underscored the universal nature of challenges and the intrinsic strength of our nation, derived from our shared values and the integrity of our leaders.”

Acknowledging the significant role of effective leadership in national development, Shettima praised the resilience and dedication of Nigerians. “Our nation’s history demonstrates that despite challenges, our collective ambition and resolve remain unyielding. Every sacrifice made paves the way for a prosperous future.”

In closing, the Vice President encouraged unity and democratic values over divisive tendencies, stating that the country’s strength lies in its unwavering commitment to unity and progress.

Further illuminating the significance of the lecture, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, highlighted its aim to emphasize Nigeria’s socio-economic potential. He pointed out that the lecture serves to elaborate on strategic initiatives by the current administration in response to the evolving socio-economic landscape both domestically and globally.

Akume also made reference to President Tinubu’s recent address at the United Nations General Assembly, underscoring Nigeria’s eagerness to form collaborative and developmental partnerships on the international stage.
