Labour Party Advocates for Peaceful Reclamation of Nigeria

Published on

The Labour Party (LP) has reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring that their presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, charts a course toward realising a transformed Nigeria through peaceful means.

Mr. Obiora Ifoh, the LP National Publicity Secretary, released a statement in response to recent media claims and video segments suggesting that Mr. Obi might face arrest soon. These reports are accompanied by alleged prophecies, urging prayers for Obi, hinting at a potential arrest.

Adressing these circulating stories, Mr. Ifoh stated, “Such narratives might typically go unaddressed. However, our concerns arise when these unfounded reports are paired with selectively edited video excerpts from Mr. Obi’s past election campaigns. In these, he emphasised to Nigerian youths the significance of reclaiming our nation.”

“Manipulating these videos to portray them as recent comments is not only misleading but could be considered unlawful. Such tactics appear to be designed with the intent of falsely implicating Mr. Obi. It’s essential to underscore Mr. Obi’s unwavering dedication to the principles of law and his commitment to non-aggressive political strategies,” he added.

Mr. Ifoh went on to detail an incident on March 1, 2023, “When the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) unexpectedly announced its election results at 4 a.m., numerous supporters of Obi, both domestically and abroad, urged him to sanction a widespread protest. However, he steadfastly believed in a legal and non-violent path for Nigeria’s future.”

The party firmly believes that the allegations painting Mr. Obi as an advocate for violence are baseless. As Mr. Ifoh highlighted, “Any claims portraying Mr. Obi as a promoter of violence are sheer fabrications. Such misrepresentations seem to be an attempt to tarnish his reputation unjustly.”

Recounting Mr. Obi’s track record and principles, the statement read, “Mr. Obi, known for his peaceful demeanour, is a staunch believer in justice. The former Anambra State governor is convinced that Nigeria’s renewal is attainable by following the correct legal channels without resorting to public disturbances.”

In conclusion, the Labour Party urged, “We respectfully ask that individuals or groups making future prophecies or predictions refrain from including Mr. Obi. His trust resides in the Nigerian populace and his faith, not in speculative foretellings.”
