Nigeria Celebrates 63 Years: Gbajabiamila Speaks on Economic Interventions

Published on

Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, addressed the nation’s current economic woes on Nigeria’s 63rd independence anniversary. He warned that the advantages of the federal government’s attempts to alleviate economic strain might not manifest instantly.

Gbajabiamila remains optimistic, referencing recent policies that are likely to have a more immediate impact. For instance, he cited the interim pay raise of N25,000 for workers slated for the upcoming six months. Additionally, he highlighted the introduction of buses powered by compressed natural gas, a move intended to address the immediate welfare and transportation needs of the populace.

Speaking after the official ceremony in the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Gbajabiamila commented on President Tinubu’s sentiments: “President Tinubu deeply empathizes with the people. While some benefits of his interventions may take time, we expect short-term relief from others.”

Drawing from the President’s nationwide address, Gbajabiamila drew a comparison between the current economic situation and the inevitable pains preceding childbirth. He emphasized that enduring these necessary challenges will lead to long-term benefits, much like the joy following the birth of a child.

Expanding on national challenges, Gbajabiamila pointed out that Nigeria’s struggles aren’t unique. Despite adversities, the nation stands strong due to the collective resilience of its citizens. He praised the unity displayed during the day’s events, celebrating the harmonious collaboration of diverse ethnic groups.

Abdullahi Ganduje, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, echoed Gbajabiamila’s sentiment that current difficulties are foundational steps towards future prosperity. He acknowledged the strain of subsidy removal but stressed its necessity for national progress.

Meanwhile, Adelabu Adebayo, Minister of Power, pleaded for patience and understanding from Nigerians. Adebayo expressed the ministry’s dedication to ending the nation’s long-standing power instability. While reluctant to provide a timeline, he assured that the ministry is nearing the conclusion of its sector diagnosis to offer practical solutions.

The 63rd independence celebration marked President Tinubu’s first official ceremony since assuming office.
