PDP Hails Akobundu’s Victory, Accuses LP of Plotting Violence

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State has celebrated the victory of its candidate, Col. Austin Akobundu, in the Abia Central senatorial election, after the Court of Appeal overturned the previous verdict that favored the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Darlington Nwokocha.

The PDP said it was pleased with the justice delivered by the appellate court, which declared Akobundu as the authentic winner of the election, based on the evidence presented by the party. The PDP also commended Akobundu for his resilience and perseverance in pursuing his mandate.

However, the PDP also alleged that the LP was planning to cause mayhem in the state, following the loss of its candidate, who was the Senate Minority Chief Whip before the judgement2. The PDP said it had uncovered two disturbing documents from the LP, one calling for a protest rally in black clothes, and another criticizing the judgment of the court.

The PDP said such actions were unheard of in the history of democracy, and that the LP was disrespecting the rule of law and the will of the people. The PDP urged the LP to accept the verdict of the court in good faith, and to refrain from any act that could jeopardize the peace and security of the state.

The PDP also called on the security agencies to be vigilant and to prevent any breakdown of law and order in the state. The PDP said it was committed to the development and welfare of the people of Abia State, and that it would continue to work with the state government and other stakeholders to achieve its goals.
