In a somber turn of events, the political landscape of Ondo State has been marked by poignant resignations following the death of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. Richard Olatunde, the Chief Press Secretary, and Dare Aragbaye, the Special Adviser on Union Matters and Special Duties, have both tendered their resignations, citing the loss of their principal as the key reason.

Olatunde, in a heartfelt resignation letter, expressed that his departure was a direct consequence of Governor Akeredolu’s untimely passing. Describing the late governor as a “leader, principal, and father figure,” he reflected on his tenure as CPS as a period of profound professional and personal growth, inspired by Akeredolu’s leadership and commitment to the state’s development.

Similarly, Aragbaye’s resignation echoed a deep sense of loyalty and respect for the late governor. In his resignation, Aragbaye lauded Governor Akeredolu as a “fearless and honest leader,” vowing allegiance to him even posthumously. He extended gratitude for the opportunity to serve in Akeredolu’s administration, a tenure he evidently holds in high esteem.

Governor Akeredolu’s death, which occurred in Germany at the age of 67, has not only left a void in the political sphere but also instigated a wave of emotional responses from his team. In the wake of these events, Aiyedatiwa has been sworn in as the new governor in a ceremony at the Government House, Alagbaka, Akure, marking a new chapter in the state’s governance.

This development comes amidst nationwide reactions to Akeredolu’s demise, with figures like President Buhari, Peter Obi, and Governor Sanwo-Olu expressing their condolences and highlighting the late governor’s significant contributions to Nigeria and Ondo State.

As the state mourns and transitions, these resignations stand as a testament to the impact and legacy of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, whose leadership qualities have evidently resonated deeply with his closest aides.
