Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has applauded the collaborative efforts of President Bola Tinubu and the military high command for their decision to withdraw troops from the Okuama community in Ughelli South Local Government Area. Addressing journalists in Asaba, Governor Oborevwori heralded this as a pivotal moment for the residents, who can now return to their homes and begin the process of rebuilding their lives.
“Following numerous discussions and mutual understanding with military leaders, including a direct conversation with Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, we have witnessed the complete withdrawal of military personnel from Okuama,” Oborevwori explained. This significant move comes after intense national dialogue and reflects a major step toward restoring peace and normalcy in the area.
Governor Acknowledges National Support
In his speech, the Governor expressed his profound gratitude towards various stakeholders who played a role during the crisis. “I extend my deepest thanks to President Tinubu, Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja, and other military officials for their cooperation and sensitivity to the plight of Okuama’s displaced citizens,” he said.
Additionally, Oborevwori highlighted the support from the National Assembly, prominent Nigerians, traditional rulers, and other thought leaders who stood steadfast with Delta State throughout the ordeal. “Their unwavering support was crucial in navigating the complexities of this crisis and has been instrumental in achieving this peaceful outcome,” he added.

Governor Oborevwori reassured the people of Delta State of his administration’s dedication to ensuring peace and security, which are central to their governance agenda. “The MORE agenda of our administration prioritizes peace and security, and we remain committed to upholding these principles throughout our state,” he stated.

Looking forward, the state government has already begun taking proactive steps to aid the displaced community. “After personally assessing the situation in Okuama on April 20, we initiated the establishment of an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp at Ewu to serve as a transitional aid for their rehabilitation,” Oborevwori announced.
The Governor closed his address with a hopeful note for the future, emphasizing collective responsibility in maintaining security. “As we assist the people of Okuama in returning to their homes, I assure everyone that such tragedies will be prevented in the future.
