Kano Governor Declares 24-Hour Curfew

The Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has declared a 24-hour curfew following violent protests against economic hardship in the region. This decision was announced through a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa, detailing the outcome of an emergency State Security Council meeting.

The emergency meeting was convened to address the escalating violence and disruptions that have emerged from civil demonstrations. The protests, initially peaceful, quickly turned violent, necessitating immediate action from state authorities. To safeguard lives and protect both public and private property, the council unanimously decided to implement the curfew.

Tofa emphasized the necessity of the curfew to restore order and ensure the safety of the state’s residents. “The imposition of this curfew is a necessary measure to restore order and ensure the safety of our communities,” he stated. “It is paramount that we protect our citizens from further harm and preserve the sanctity of our state’s institutions and businesses.”

Governor Yusuf called on all citizens to remain vigilant and united during this challenging period. He urged the people of Kano not to let the actions of a few individuals divide the community. “Let us not allow the actions of a few selfish individuals to divide us. Together, we can navigate these challenges and fortify our resolve to build a stronger, more resilient Kano State,” he said.

The governor’s statement noted that all security agencies in the state have been directed to ensure full compliance with the curfew. Citizens were urged to adhere to this directive for their safety and the well-being of everyone in the state.
