The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Edo State, Okpebholo, has pledged to remain popular with the people by following in the footsteps of former governor Adams Oshiomhole. Speaking during his ward-to-ward campaign in Etsako East Local Government Area, he promised to prioritize the needs of the people, much like Oshiomhole did during his tenure.
Campaign promises: Security and education
While addressing the people in Okpella, Okpebholo expressed his commitment to addressing key issues such as security and education. He criticized the current government under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and urged the electorate to vote for change.
“We must tell Obaseki that our mumu don do,” he said, encouraging voters to reject the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo.
He also assured the people of adequate security on election day, recounting an earlier clash where his campaign team had been attacked by suspected thugs.
“They will pay for all these attacks on innocent voters. How will you be shooting at unarmed civilians, and you want them to vote for you?” he questioned.
On education, Okpebholo promised significant reforms, stating that his administration would hire 5,000 teachers within the first 100 days in office.
According to a report by Vanguard, he emphasized that contract teachers would be given permanent employment, and schools would be revitalized to ensure a better learning environment.
“In schools, you don’t have roofs, no teachers. We will reposition education,” he added.
Focus on health and infrastructure
In addition to his focus on education, Okpebholo pledged to improve healthcare services across the state. He promised to establish Primary Health Centers (PHCs) in every ward and support the growth of existing secondary healthcare facilities.
Okpebholo also referenced the development efforts of former Governor Oshiomhole, highlighting his achievements in bringing major investments like Dangote and BUA cement factories to the region.
He reassured the people of Okpella that his administration would continue where Oshiomhole left off, especially in ensuring security and economic growth.
Oshiomhole, who was also present at the campaign, criticized the current administration for failing to deliver on its promises and praised his own achievements as governor, particularly in bringing industrial growth to Edo State.
