The women’s wing of the Kano Anglican Church has donated foodstuff and essential supplies to inmates at the Goron Dutse Medium Security Custodial Centre, aiming to improve their welfare and show support.

Supporting inmates through donations

The Anglican women’s group presented various items, including foodstuff, toiletries, and clothing buckets, to the inmates during a visit to the custodial center.

Mrs. Edna Ezike, Chairperson of All Anglican Women, led the delegation on Saturday, emphasizing that the donation was a way to help improve the inmates’ standard of living.

In addition, Mrs. Ezike urged the inmates to view their time in prison as an opportunity for self-reflection and positive change.

Furthermore, she encouraged them to embrace the rehabilitation programs provided by the facility, saying, “Endeavour to utilise the skills acquired from the centre. We want to assure you that we are interested in your well-being.”

Encouraging positive change

Ezike advised the inmates to avoid returning to criminal behaviors, reminding them of the importance of becoming good ambassadors after their release.

According to Punch, she also called on parents and guardians to raise their children with moral guidance to prevent them from ending up in similar situations.

Furthermore, the chairperson encouraged philanthropists to visit correctional centers regularly to provide moral and material support for the inmates.

Also, a staff member from the custodial center, speaking on behalf of the management, expressed gratitude for the donations, acknowledging the positive impact they would have on the welfare of the inmates.

“This gesture is well-appreciated by us as these items will greatly improve the welfare of the inmates in this facility,” the representative said.
