North Central Insists on Producing Ayu’s PDP Successor

KEY POINTS

  • North Central insists on naming the successor to PDP’s former chairman, Ayu.
  • Ologbondiyan calls for adherence to the PDP Constitution to guide the party.
  • He criticizes internal opposition and urges members to support North Central’s rightful role.

Former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kola Ologbondiyan, has asserted that no individual or group within the party can prevent the North Central Zone from naming the successor to former PDP National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.

He made the declaration while addressing PDP youths from the North Central during a gathering in Abuja over the weekend.

Push for North Central leadership

Ologbondiyan emphasized that the North Central zone is set to name Ayu’s successor in accordance with Section 47(6) of the PDP Constitution (2017 as Amended). According to him, party stakeholders across the six geopolitical zones, especially from the North East, are united in their support for the North Central to replace Ayu.

Also, he mentioned that states including Taraba, Gombe, Bauchi, Yobe, Adamawa, and Borno are backing this decision, and processes are being finalized to achieve it.

“The North Central will produce a successor to Senator Ayu, not any other zone. Any individual or group wishing to stop the implementation of Section 47(6) of the PDP Constitution is not seeking the good of our party,” Ologbondiyan said.

Addressing internal opposition

Ologbondiyan criticized certain members of the party who have been opposing the North Central’s right to produce the next chairman.

However, he called on PDP members to ignore those who, in his words, have turned themselves into interpreters of the party’s Constitution, creating arbitrary rules to suit their personal agenda.

According to Vanguard, he further underscored that the PDP’s Constitution is the ultimate guideline for decision-making, not the whims of individuals, regardless of their positions.

“The grundnorm for the PDP is the PDP’s Constitution (2017 as Amended) and not the desires of any individual irrespective of the position occupied by such an individual,” he stated.

Moreover, Ologbondiyan urged members to adhere strictly to the party’s constitutional provisions to ensure proper guidance and restore the party’s lost glory.

In addition, he called on members to support the North Central in fulfilling their rightful role in naming Ayu’s successor and to work collectively for the good of the PDP.

Unity and adherence to the Constitution

Ologbondiyan’s statements are part of ongoing efforts by the North Central to ensure that their zone is not sidelined in the party’s leadership.

The former publicity secretary reaffirmed that the North Central remains committed to upholding the party’s Constitution and will not allow any interference that undermines their rightful claim.

Furthermore, he appealed to all party members to support this move, stating that unity and adherence to constitutional processes are vital for the PDP’s future. Ologbondiyan concluded by stressing that the PDP’s internal stability and unity are crucial for winning back the confidence of the Nigerian electorate.
