Speaking at an event marking Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary and Ebonyi State’s 28th year since its creation, Nwifuru affirmed his commitment to improving infrastructure and economic stability in the state.
Road infrastructure development
Governor Nwifuru highlighted the importance of expanding road infrastructure to enhance the connectivity and economy of Ebonyi. He noted that his administration is working on projects in both rural and urban areas, with some roads completed while others are still under construction.
“We are proud to say that we are effectively present in over 700 kilometers of roads in the state,” Nwifuru said.
Among the major road projects are the Ishielu Water Works Road, Nnorom Street, Udude-Ukwuakpu Street, and the internal roads within the Ebonyi State University. Other key roads under development include the Mile 50 New Layout-Abakaliki dual carriageway, Ogbaga Avenue, and the Ebonyi-Agro Dealers Market Road.
These road developments are expected to strengthen the state’s economic growth by providing better access and infrastructure.
According to Vanguard, Governor Nwifuru called on stakeholders to support these initiatives, emphasizing that the expansion of road infrastructure is key to ensuring progress in the state. He said, “In the areas of roads and bridges, we are determined to expand our road infrastructure to rural areas and also strengthen our economy.”
Empowerment and human capital
The governor also highlighted the progress his administration has made in empowering citizens, particularly women and youth. He noted that Ebonyi’s government has prioritized vocational and technical education for skills enhancement.
“We have worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for our youth and women through skills acquisition programs, financial grants, and entrepreneurial support,” Nwifuru said.
The state government has provided financial empowerment to 500 individuals with N2 million each and supported 1,500 youth across all 13 LGAs with N1 million each. Also, these initiatives aim to uplift community members and boost the local economy through entrepreneurial activities and job creation.
Nwifuru underscored the importance of “stomach infrastructure,” a term referring to the basic welfare of the citizens, which includes social programs that address the well-being of the population.
Furthermore, he reaffirmed his commitment to promoting human capital development in Ebonyi, stating that investments in vocational skills, education, and community projects will help secure the future of the state.
Support from stakeholders
Former Governor Sam Egwu also praised Governor Nwifuru for his achievements, emphasizing the progress made under his leadership. Egwu urged Nwifuru to continue his work for the people of Ebonyi.
“I pray that God will continue to give you ideas to move the state to the highest pedestal. We are enjoying peace today in the state because we have Nwifuru as our governor,” Egwu said.
Egwu’s statement resonated with the idea of unity and collaboration for development, as he called on citizens and stakeholders to contribute to the ongoing progress in Ebonyi.
Governor Nwifuru’s administration aims to build on these achievements to make further strides in infrastructure, human capital, and economic growth. With more roads under construction and ongoing efforts to empower communities, the governor emphasized that the government is committed to addressing the needs of its citizens.
