The Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, launched a campaign rally for Sola Ebiseeni, LP’s candidate in Ondo’s upcoming governorship election, with a vibrant roadshow across Akure.

Obi urged the residents to vote for permanency and change rather than voting for the leaders who only come around campaigning every four years.

Call for renewed leadership

During the rally, Obi, was very intense while addressing the people on the prospects of changing the face of most of the publicservices offered in Ondo State.

”This is the time to reconstruct Ondo State,” he added, adding that the government must work on creating jobs, education, and infrastructure.

He stressed that leaders must strive to ensure that Nigeria is built for the needy especially the poor and the jobless.

“We know democracy is suffering, but we still insist on telling Nigerians that we must build a new Nigeria,” Obi said. He described his vision for a nation where every citizen has a chance to succeed, with schools functioning and healthcare services available to all.

Obi also warned against vote-buying, cautioning Ondo residents to resist offers of money for their votes, which he said was often obtained through corrupt means. He added, “Ondo’s electorate should reject vote-buying, as it undermines true democratic progress.”

Ebiseeni affirms party’s popularity in Ondo

Sola Ebiseeni, the LP candidate, shared his confidence in the Labour Party’s position, stating that it remains a prominent choice in Ondo.

“This is a party the people of Ondo have trusted twice before,” Ebiseeni remarked, referencing the LP’s governance history from 2009 to 2017.

He emphasized the party’s visible contributions, wearing the party’s symbolic orange color as he addressed supporters.

The LP candidate also praised Obi’s visit as a show of support and a reminder of the Labour Party’s commitment to the electorate.

According to Vanguard, he  encouraged voters to stand by the party for meaningful progress and to drive the state toward a brighter future.

Support for election fairness

Meanwhile, the Ondo LP chapter expressed trust in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to oversee a transparent and fair election.

The party’s Publicity Secretary, Ayo Williams, said that the State Working Committee, led by Abiodun Agbaje, had issued a statement of confidence in the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola.

“We deeply request INEC to make a position in conducting a free and credible election,” Williams noted.

The LP emphasized its devotion to democratic values and asked all participants of the voting process to be honest.

The party also urged its members and supporters to remain peaceful and respect the rule of law throughout the election period.
