Lagos Signs EoI with EU-Africa to Promote SDGs, Climate Action

  • EU Africa Chamber of Commerce signs Strategic Partnership with Lagos State for Sustainable Development.

The EU-Africa Chamber of Commerce (EUACC), in collaboration with its Lagos State partner, the Office of Special Adviser on Climate Change and Circular Economy (OCCE) has signed an Expression of Interest (EoI).

The partnership intends to unlock climate financing, promote technology transfer and stimulate green economic growth aligned to the aspiration of Governor Babajide SanwoOlu to transform Lagos into a sustainable and resilient mega city.

The collaboration is for projects that comply with the goals set out in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Articles 6.2 and 6.4ER, mainly carbon offset targets and push of Economic, Environmental, Social, and Governance (EESG) compliance.

De-risked sustainable projects that will put Lagos in good standing in climate action globally will also be a priority.

Collaborative advancement towards sustainable development

According to Mrs. Titilayo Oshodi, Special Adviser to the Governor on Climate Change and Circular Economy, Lagos State, the signing ceremony was indeed at COP 29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, and this strategic partnership is very important.

The MoU to be finalized at COP29 will cover areas of green financing, technology transfer and sustainable development, Oshodi explained.

“This partnership positions Lagos at the forefront of global climate action,” Oshodi said. Via OCCE’s strategic involvement we seek to incorporate environmental sustainability into the state’s financial planning so that it becomes a base feature of our decision making process.”

The collaboration with EUACC will further help to accelerate the implementation of innovative climate solutions, attract green investment and position Lagos as a global leader in sustainable development, she said.

Lagos’ slot in global climate action strengthened

In addition this is a transformative step for Lagos as it brings the city closer to global climate leadership with this partnership with the EU Africa Chamber of Commerce.

Tapping into pioneering projects and building strategic alliances, Lagos is shining as one of the world’s climate leaders.
