KEY POINTS

  • Infrastructure, transportation and youth engagement are priorities for 2025 too.
  • Residents asked to discharge civic duties to support development.

Nyesom Wike, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister has stated the accomplishments of his administration within the past 12 months and laid out plans for 2025 to ensure more security, transportation and infrastructural development.

Wike, in his New Year message to residents, which he personally signed, thanked them for their support and also cooperation in implementing policies and programmes.

Achievements in 2024

Wike described 2024 as a remarkable year for the FCT, noting several key achievements:

– Infrastructural Development: Apart from that, extensive construction of urban and rural roads improved connectivity as well as economic activities mainly in rural areas.
– Education:This created conducive learning environments for the rehabilitation of schools which empowered the next generation.
– Security:Also, provision of over 100 vehicles to various security agencies as well as implementation of innovative strategies, also enhanced safety and reduced crime.
– Economic Growth: Rural areas and infrastructure investments also promoted economics development.
– Administrative Reforms: The Mandate Secretariat for Youth Development led to the establishment of a governance and service delivery improvement.

Priorities for 2025

Building on these achievements, Wike pledged to focus on several critical areas this year:

– Infrastructure: Ongoing intensive development for economic progress and general well being of the people.
– Transportation:The challenge of public transportation improvement encounters private sector collaboration for smoother mobility.
– Essential Services:To enhance healthcare, education and agriculture for accessibility of all residents.
– Youth Engagement: Expanding programs to exploit the potential in young people.
– Tourism and Security:Strengthening the tourism sector by maintaining our progress in security.

An appeal to come together

Wike also harped on the need for residents to discharge their civic responsibilities, including the payment of taxes and levies, in order to continue to support developmental projects.

This, he said, is a call on residents to unite and work with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, in transforming the FCT to be a global standard capital territory.
