KEY POINTS

  • Tinubu makes a legal motion for the court to remove the impeachment lawsuit against him.
  • The plaintiff receives no legal basis according to what AGF maintains.
  • The hearing process now continues towards March 4 when further arguments will take place.

President Bola Tinubu requested at the Federal High Court in Abuja for the lawsuit to be dismissed which aimed to force the National Assembly (NASS) to start impeachment proceedings against him.

Lawyer Olukoya Ogungbeje filed a suit at the Federal High Court of Abuja that accused the Tinubu regime of denying citizen rights during the peaceful demonstrations from August 1 through August 10 of 2024.

A preliminary objection arrived from President Bola Tinubu together with Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN to contest the plaintiff’s legal authority in filing a case.

The defendants maintained that the lawsuit contained no substantial value or basis from official court proceedings.

A denial statement to oppose human rights violations

Public authorities maintain that security forces protected peaceful protesters from interruption during demonstrations.

According to the Federal Ministry of Justice through their opposing filing the right to seek protection for rights violations belongs only to immediate parties affected by these violations.

Justices Omotosho initiated an extension for response preparation until March 4, 2025 to enable Stanley Okonmah to repose to the government’s objection.
