KEY POINTS

  • The former Vice President Atiku requires full disclosure of all $1.07 billion dollars dedicated to health care budget distribution.
  • The warning focuses on financial mismanagement since the government has previously experienced losses in public funds.
  • The intervention funds warrant a definitive policy outline for their designated use.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar demands the Federal Government to apply open transparency and complete accountability during the distribution of the healthcare sector budget worth $1.07 billion for 2025.

Atiku warned about bad financial handling as he described previous situations in which public funds could not be tracked.

Recent years have produced various unbelievable reports about money disappearing under strange conditions where animals such as snakes and monkeys are said to swallow money. Atiku declared on Sunday that the vital health sector of Nigeria should not suffer this kind of fate.

The situation of economic hardship and healthcare budget scarcity requires that every monetary allocation to the healthcare sector must receive full accountability.

Policy framework exists as a significant cause for concern

The government faces criticism from Atiku about its inadequate plan showing how the intervention funds should be expended.

The government intends to use $1.07 billion from its budget for primary healthcare expenditure according to documented information. Together with the previously proposed N2.48 trillion from the budget draft there is an additional funding of N2.48 trillion.

People of Nigeria need detailed information about the loan specifics including how funds from them will be allocated he stated.

He requested that accountability systems should be established alongside public audit mechanisms which he called essential as the government has an obligation to maintain fund transparency for healthcare.

The announcement shows rising anxiety regarding public corruption as well as insufficient resource management throughout Nigeria.
