Veteran Aspirants Challenge Soludo in Anambra 2025 Election

KEY POINTS

  • Several APC competitors are designing strategies that suggest they will contest against Soludo during the upcoming 2025 gubernatorial election.
  • APC opposes the rotational system imposed by APGA for candidate selection because zoning has become an important issue.

The November 8, 2025 Anambra gubernatorial race has initiated political maneuvers because All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates prepare to contest incumbent All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

APC’s strategy and federal influence

To compete against APGA for power some APC hopefuls rely on federal backing yet several other candidates believe Soludo failed to keep his significant campaign promises above all in security matters. The government’s opponents use public security as an attack point by attributing state government responsibility for continuous incidents of kidnapping and attacks.

According to APGA there are enough reasons to support Soludo’s reelection because of his accomplishments in road construction together with other infrastructural developments. The political party stresses its traditional arrangement that distributes governorship positions through each of the state’s three senatorial areas.

APC rejects zoning, opens race to all districts

The APC contradicts APGA when it comes to zoning by declaring that its internal agreements do not legally oblige the party. APC has fielded political aspirants who come from each of Anambra State’s three zones. Key contenders include:

Sir Paul Chukwuma (Anambra North) stands as one of APC’s initial members and former national auditor who attacked APGA’s zoning strategy and promised to reestablish security and governance in the state.

Business giant and airline executive Professor Obiora Okonkwo from Anambra Central has committed to regaining the state from stagnation while securing it from insecurity after being an APC loyalist for many years.

The former representative Hon. Chukwuma Umeoji (Anambra South) pursued APGA’s nomination for governorship until legal hurdles pushed him to seek a governorship run through APC.

APC received support from Anambra South financier Chief Nicholas Ukachukwu who was previously vital to an APGA faction before his switch to APC.

Influence of power brokers and financial strength

Every political analyst expects intense competition in the forthcoming April 5 APC primaries because party funding will determine the outcome.

The state chapter of the party receives substantial financial support from two aspirants named Ukachukwu and Okonkwo who are thought to be competing for the party ticket by offering the largest donations.

Internal party dynamics within Imo State have become more difficult to manage after Governor Hope Uzodinma decided to support a candidate from Anambra South.

Political observers maintain close watch to determine if APC will build enough backing to defeat APGA during the upcoming election.
