  • ARD maintains that all staff quarters need normal power supply before medical personnel can return to work.
  • UCH Management receives positive recognition for their attempts yet the doctors maintain permanent electricity restoration as their condition for returning to work.

Resident doctors working at University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan started an unlimited strike because their residential area has not received power for too long.

Medical staff at University College Hospital Ibadan launched their indefinite walkout according to the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) who announced their decision on Monday for the inadequate power recovery effort.

Doctors demand full electricity restoration

Dr. Uthman Adedeji from the ARD General Secretary revealed that UCH received power back from IBEDC after 100 days of power outage while certain residential quarters still lack electricity. Before issuing the deadline, the association had required a total restoration by 4 p.m. on Monday.

At the emergency general meeting Adedeji stressed the necessity of continual power supply for optimal service delivery because members did not have a different choice but to go on strike.

The doctor workforce at UCH Management admits their efforts yet demands a definitive resolution of the issues to end their work stoppage.

The medical staff association will make routine assessments but will continue their strike action until every power-deprived residential area has access to electricity.
