KEY POINTS

  • Lawmakers at Rivers Assembly maintain their position of not blocking Governor Fubara from submitting the 2025 Appropriation Bill.
  • The legislators confirm they sent a government-sourced invitation to the governor yet he avoided any sort of correspondence.
  • The Assembly asserts that Fubara executed political theatrics for the purpose of shaping public opinions.

Rivers State House of Assembly dismissed Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s assertion about his inability to deliver the 2025 Appropriation Bill by accusing him of deceiving public audiences.

Assembly denies blocking Fubara

Rivers assembly accuses Fubara, Chief Dr. Enemi George who serves as both the House Spokesperson and chairman of the House Committee on Information termed the governor’s statement a “comedy skit” which defamed the Assembly’s reputation.

George explained the House gave official invitations to the governor to deliver his budget proposal following the Supreme Court decision yet he never responded.

Our representation at the governor demanded his bill after the court decision so we could prevent detrimental delays in state budget delivery. The Assembly acted speedily since it considers state matters first and didn’t want Rivers people to endure any hardships during this process according to George.

Despite repeated budget appeals from lawmakers Governor continued to withhold their allowances and destroy the Assembly complex yet he received yet another demand from them to accelerate budget development.

Rivers assembly accuses Fubara, allegations of ignored invitations

An official request from the Assembly to the governor demanded both the 2025 budget and additional commissioner and board member candidates to be submitted. The governor stated he never received the requests made by Assembly officials.

The Assembly staff members made multiple attempts to deliver these resolutions to him yet they encountered gate security brutality before getting rejected.

George said the Assembly sent documents by courier after Fubara’s team turned away their employees, but Fubara refused to acknowledge the materials.

According to him the legislative body sought to adjourn the budget session on March 15 to secure prompt receipt of federal fiscal support. Because of the delay the members remain uncertain about what the governor plans to do.

The state governor George declared to lawmakers that Fubara’s claims of presentational restriction were false because they received his letter through social media after the Wednesday meeting.

The online circulating letter had March 11 as its official date. The governor allegedly wrote a letter on Tuesday before he appeared at the Assembly quarters on Wednesday morning while claiming budget presentation was his purpose. That single fact reveals complete lack of sincerity between the parties according to his view point.

Standard operational procedure mandates the governor to remain patient until receiving formal approval from the Assembly before initiating attendance.

While supporting the rule of law the Assembly requested the governor to take actions beneficial for the state.

Rivers State will always be the priority for this Assembly. The authorities should enact required measures to allow Rivers people the opportunity to breathe.

The life and wealth of the Rivers state population is the subject of Governor Fubara’s games according to George’s analysis.
