As Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections, a new political coalition, Team New Nigeria (TNN), has emerged. This group aims to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

TNN criticizes Tinubu’s government

At a press briefing in Abuja on March 22, 2025, TNN President Modibbo Yakubun Farakwai strongly criticized the APC government.

He accused the government of mismanaging the country’s economy and causing widespread suffering among the people.

Farakwai pointed out that Nigeria is facing a tough economic situation. He explained that hyperinflation and the rising cost of basic items are making life harder for Nigerians.

He also said that many families are struggling to choose between getting healthcare for sick children and providing meals for the family.

Farakwai said the middle class is being wiped out due to the government’s policies. He also claimed that government officials are greedy and corrupt, continuing to waste money on unimportant projects while the people suffer.

A call for change

Farakwai’s statements show that TNN wants a change in leadership. He said the APC government has ignored the country’s problems and continued with poor decisions.

He also criticized the government for politicizing state institutions and not caring about the well-being of ordinary Nigerians.

Farakwai emphasized that TNN would work hard to fix the country’s problems, especially its economy and security.

TNN sets up committees for the 2027 elections

To prepare for the 2027 elections, TNN has created several committees. These committees will help with legal matters, political management, publicity, and organizing support for the coalition.

The committees are led by notable figures like Professor Muhartumad Zakari Yaro, who will lead the Legal and Constitutional Compliance Committee, and Professor Silva Opuala-Charles, who will head the Political Management Committee.

Other committee leaders include Alhaji Omar Yusuf Aiyelabegan, who will chair the Contact and Mobilization Committee, and Dr. Adebayo Akin-Omotuyi, who will lead the Finance Committee.

Farakwai said these committees have already completed their work and are ready to take action.

What’s next?

As the 2027 elections get closer, TNN’s efforts will likely influence Nigeria’s political future. The coalition plans to challenge President Tinubu and the APC by focusing on the issues that matter most to the people. Their main focus will be improving the economy and tackling corruption.

TNN’s formation signals that the 2027 elections could be highly competitive, with many Nigerians looking for change in their leadership.
