Major Candidates Emerge for Anambra 2025 Governorship Election

With the Anambra 2025 governorship election just around the corner, the main political parties have already chosen their candidates.

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), All Progressives Congress (APC), and Labour Party (LP) have held their primaries and picked their flag-bearers.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will announce its candidate on April 8. The governorship election is set for November 8, 2025.

APGA’s candidate for 2025

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has officially chosen Governor Chukwuma Soludo to represent the party in the upcoming election.

During the primary held in Awka, Soludo was the only candidate, winning 3,171 votes from 3,175 delegates. The election, held at the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square, was monitored by INEC officials.

Soludo, seeking a second term, praised the organization of the primary and thanked APGA officials for their efforts.

Uchenna Nwegbo, chairperson of the APGA Primary Election Committee, confirmed that the process followed the Electoral Act, 2022, ensuring Soludo’s unanimous nomination.

Labour Party elects George Moghalu

The Labour Party (LP) selected George Moghalu as its candidate for the 2025 election. In the primary, Moghalu, a former managing director of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), won with 573 votes. His opponent, John Nwosu, received 19 votes.

Moghalu expressed confidence in defeating Governor Soludo and called for unity within the party.

He pledged to work hard to share the party’s message across the state. He also promised to use visionary leadership to harness Anambra’s resources for the benefit of its people.

APC picks Nicholas Ukachukwu

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has nominated Nicholas Ukachukwu as its candidate for governor.

Ukachukwu, a former House of Representatives member, won the party’s primary election with 1,455 votes, defeating Valentine Ozigbo, who received 67 votes.

In his victory speech, Ukachukwu promised to lead the APC to victory. He emphasized that no one has won Anambra’s governorship without his support in the past.

Ukachukwu expressed confidence in his ability to bring change to the state.

PDP primary election set for April 8

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will hold its primary election on Tuesday, April 8. INEC has set a deadline of April 10 for all parties to conclude their primaries.

With the 2025 governorship election scheduled for November 8, the stage is now set for a competitive race as the major parties finalize their candidates.
