KEY POINTS

  • Kwara shortlists 1,800 applicants for teaching jobs across 16 LGAs.
  • The drug tests will start on April 9 requiring all successful candidates to become bound to the six-year transfer restriction.
  • Applicants need to present medical certificates alongside their original credentials when they provide documentation.

The Kwara State Teaching Service Commission chose 1,800 candidates from the pool of applicants for teaching positions throughout the state after conducting the process via computer-based exams and multiple interviews during a three-month period.

Mr. Sam Onile released the information through his statement as the Chief Press Secretary for the commission in Ilorin. According to his explanation the chosen candidates match the requirements of an assessment angled toward filling vacancies in local government areas throughout the state.

Breakdown of shortlisted applicants for state teaching jobs

The chosen candidates consist of 790 applicants (44 percent) for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects and 581 for core subjects and 370 for specialized subjects and 59 for technical education applicants according to Onile.

The deployed applicants will work in senior secondary schools according to subject requirements identified for local areas.

The shortlisted candidates for the state teaching jobs must undergo drug screening tests organized by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in preparation for their new roles. The drug screening exercise of selected candidates will be supervised by Hon. Mukail Aileru in his role as Special Assistant to the Governor on Drugs Abuse, Prevention and Control.

The drug tests will take place during four consecutive days from Wednesday April 9 to Saturday April 12 of 2025. The candidates originating from Baruten, Edu, Kaiama and Patigi will undergo screening on Wednesday as candidates from Ekiti, Ifelodun, Irepodun, and Isin will proceed on Thursday followed by applicants from Offa, Oke Ero, Oyun and Moro on Friday and those from Asa, Ilorin East, Ilorin South and Ilorin West on Saturday. As an extra step to assure transparency and prevent cheating the NDLEA will send the test results to the commission immediately.

Documentation and policy requirements

Among the necessary requirements for shortlisted candidates are medical documents from state government hospitals and original documents of academic and professional credentials that need verification. Document records will receive photocopies of all provided materials.

Employment candidates must handwrite their acceptance letters to the institution as part of the application process. The state has implemented a policy to enhance rural teacher recruitment by having new hires sign six-year transfer restriction bonds.

Additional service conditions will be specified and detailed through documentation procedures according to the commission. Finally job seekers should verify their recruitment details through the commission’s official webpage.
