KEY POINTS

  • A Federal High Court decided to dismiss the N50bn legal action which Nnamdi Kanu had filed.
  • Kanu made his arguments primarily based on his unlawful abduction followed by his forced extradition back to Nigeria.
  • The court eliminated the case because prosecution failed to show sufficient commitment and lacked proper legal services.

The Federal High Court based in Abuja made a decision to dismiss the lawsuit initiated by Nnamdi Kanu who heads IPOB amounting to N50 billion against the Nigerian government.

Court strikes out the demand

Justice Inyang Ekwo dismissed the legal suit because both parties failed to present legal counsel when the case was heard in court. The court had pushed the case to three subsequent adjournments because of the lack of attorneys to represent the parties.

Kanu filed a lawsuit again the Federal Government together with the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) to contest his alleged abduction in Kenya followed by illegal transfer to Nigeria. Kanu wanted to contest his extradition process by requesting court-ordered detention release.

Defendants’ objections to the suit

The Federal Court strikes out Kanu’s suit, and prevents it from proceeding after finding improper legal procedures were missing, the Federal Government earlier declared this court action as an abuse of legal process.
