Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar condemned recent killings in Plateau and Borno states. Atiku described the incidents as a reflection of worsening security under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.

He expressed outrage over the attack in the Zike community, where at least 47 lives were lost.

The tragedy occurred on Sunday in the Kimakpa area of Kwali district, Bassa Local Government Area.

This attack came just days after a similar attack in the Bokkos Local Government Area. Atiku blamed Tinubu’s administration for failing to protect citizens and safeguard lives.

Atiku also criticised the Federal Government for failing to address the ongoing terrorist attacks in Borno State. He referenced concerns from Governor Babagana Zulum and the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi.

Atiku argued that these attacks have led to significant loss of life and territory to insurgents.

He cited the government’s failure to prosecute known terrorists as a key factor in emboldening their activities across Nigeria. Atiku urged swift action to hold perpetrators accountable and emphasised the importance of proactive measures to prevent further violence.

Atiku calls for action and judicial reform to tackle terrorism

According to Punch, Atiku urged the Attorney General of the Federation to prioritise terrorism-related prosecutions. He recommended establishing special courts to expedite justice for terrorism cases.

He also called on the National Assembly to pass legislation allowing state governments to arm and equip local security forces.

Atiku stressed the need for legislative and community action to address the security crisis. He urged the public to support security forces and share vital intelligence to strengthen the country’s security framework.
