The All Progressives Congress (APC) is confident that the 2027 general election is already secured, with the party aiming to win upcoming off-season elections.
National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, made this declaration during a meeting on Thursday, April 23, 2025, as he welcomed key defectors from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) into the party.
Ganduje stated that the APC’s commitment to economic reforms and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” is what attracts new supporters.
He confirmed that the party is in talks with several governors, with more expected to join soon, especially after the defection of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, to the APC.
Party gains momentum with high-profile defections
The defection of Senator Kawu Ismaila from Kano, along with other politicians, has bolstered the APC’s position.
These leaders include Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurmum and Hon. Abdullahi Sani Rogo, who have joined the APC ranks, further strengthening the party in Kano State.
Ganduje emphasized the significance of these defections, highlighting that the party’s expanding influence will play a key role in securing victory in the 2027 elections.
He noted that many former members of the opposition, including influential political figures, are now in the APC fold, signaling a shift in the political landscape.
APC’s strategy for 2027
While the ruling party remains optimistic, the strategy also includes continuous advocacy and outreach.
Ganduje expressed confidence that APC would not only win the 2027 elections but also perform well in elections prior to that, reinforcing the party’s dominance in Nigerian politics.
The APC leadership also expressed their commitment to inclusivity and expansion, with further defections anticipated.
As more governors and key figures consider joining the party, APC believes it will continue to solidify its political position in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.
