KEY POINTS

  • The APC’s Ganduje and FCT’s Wike say the PDP is in danger of breaking apart.
  • Wike says the main reason for PDP’s weakened position is the fact that its leadership has repeatedly shown both insincerity and exclusion.
  • The PDP BoT chair Wabara states that the party will continue to exist and is working toward 2027.

Ganduje and Wike both predict that the PDP will end before the 2027 polls, according to their recent pronouncements.

The disagreement between the top leaders of APC, including Ganduje, and the PDP, symbolized by Nyesom Wike, has worsened this week with both saying the opposition is falling apart.

This came after the former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido, said the APC would not last and that Ganduje and several former PDP members would return.

Ganduje says PDP Is dead

His Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, put out a statement quoting Ganduje as saying Lamido’s remarks were unfounded and illogical.

“Soon enough, Sule Lamido will join the APC, as he will have nowhere else to go,” Ganduje said, adding, The PDP is dead.

Ganduje said the APC is becoming stronger with President Tinubu with PDP’s collapse, especially as many people are defecting to the party.

He also emphasised that with so many Nigerians supporting the APC, the party will keep making progress and is prepared to win the 2027 general elections by a wide margin.

Wike says PDP suffering from internal sabotage

Sharing Ganduje’s sentiments, Wike, who is in PDP but now works under an APC-led government, pointed out insincerity and exclusion in his former party.

He said that if the internal divisions and violation of party processes continue, the PDP may not improve its chances in future elections.

Wike said that if the PDP does not change course, putting self before party could result in its end. ‘You haven’t won an election and yet, you are shutting people out.’ You know he could hit back.

He said he left the PDP because he believed in honesty and clear structure, which are values he thinks the PDP is lacking.

Wabara says PDP’s collapse will not happen

It tells the world how united and strong we are as a party.

He also said that the PDP is getting ready to take back power in 2027 by electing skilled leaders and staying faithful to its founding principles. This appointment is an invitation to maintain the integrity, unity, and vision of the PDP, we are confident that your wisdom will take the party to victory in 2027 and afterwards, Wabara told those appointed.

Both political parties’ statements proof that the competition is getting more intense as Nigeria approaches another election in 2027.
