The Ogun State media community is in shock after Bukola Agbakaizu, a senior journalist at OGTV, suddenly collapsed and passed away on Monday while preparing for work.

The NUJ, Ogun State Council, said in a statement that emergency responders tried to revive her until doctors declared her dead upon arrival at the Federal Medical Centre.

A sudden loss

According to the statement, Agbakaizu, a loyal staff of OGTV, suffered a collapse while getting ready for work and passed away at the hospital upon arrival.

He said she was a dedicated and talented journalist, offering reference to her time as Vice Chairman of OGTV Chapel’s executive during the Wale Olanrewaju presidency.

Tributes to the Ogun female journalist from colleagues and associations

The women journalist body in Ogun State, NAWOJ, also sent their condolences on Agbakaizu’s passing. In her statement as Chairperson, Mrs. Sekinat Salam said the association felt her loss deeply at a time when her knowledge and skills were most important.

“Being dedicated to NUJ, Ogun State Council, and NAWOJ, Ogun State Chapter, the mother of two will be greatly missed,” the statement said. “Her loving and loyal approach to journalism will live in our memories.”

Legacy and final farewell

Her death at only 52 years has created a big space in the media community of Ogun State.

Salam also noted that she was someone who believed in God, cared for her family, led with strength, and set a good example for all. Even though she died at 52 years old, the way she lived for God and helped people will ensure she remains in our thoughts.

The NUJ and NAWOJ have reached out to her relatives, asking God for comfort and guiding them through this hard time.
