KEY POINTS

  • CPESK is almost finished and set to open its doors in 2025.
  • CPESK aims to educate students in the areas of energy transition, sustainability and local content development.
  • Students will benefit from collaborations with international institutions that offer mixed learning experiences with both Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

The Federal Government confirmed that workers have nearly completed the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies Kaduna (CPESK) and will begin enrolling students for classes in 2025.

The Minister, Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, announced the forthcoming completion of CPESK on a tour of the facility on Friday. PTDF has invested in building the college, which is under construction on the Kaduna–Zaria road.

Employees have advanced the project from a completion rate of 60 percent to over 90 percent and estimate completing the rest of the work within a few days.

Mr. Ekpo commended the outstanding architecture of the conference centre and library, both of which stand out as exceptional and of a global standard. The minister expressed confidence that CPESK will attract international conferences and events.

Energy transition and sustainability

Ekpo encouraged the college to switch to clean energy alternatives such as gas and solar power in line with the country’s energy policies.

We need to greatly reduce the use of diesel and switch to gas instead. I suggest that the Executive Secretary reach out to both the Energy Commission and the Rural Electrification Agency to explore the possibility of installing solar power systems that would help enhance electricity supply to the area and at the same time preserve the environment.

He highlighted how CPESK’s PhD programs based in several countries benefit both the development of local intellectuals and lower the amount of funds leaving the country.

Campus features and global partnerships

Executive Secretary Aminu has assured that CPESK will begin enrolling students as early as September.

The institution boasts a state-of-the-art conference centre featuring a 500-person-capacity auditorium. There will be 240 rooms in the hotel and a shopping area. Spaces are provided for recreational activities inside the campus and religious observance. Dining, laundry, and convenience services

The entire 86-hectare campus was laid out with the intention of fostering research, teaching, and living for students.
Aminu further shared that CPESK has entered strategic collaborations with overseas institutions such as: University of Strathclyde, Robert Gordon University, University of Portsmouth

This approach allows students to complete their studies at CPESK in Nigeria as well as join the partner universities for short stays abroad.

College of petroleum & energy studies student intake underway

To date, we’ve received over 500 admissions applications from aspiring students of the college. The college will welcome its first group of students in the near future.

The PTDF has teamed up with NNPC Limited’s Academy to provide vocational courses in areas such as business management and human resources development, continuing Professional Development, talent management, technical and vocational training.
