This weekend, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal will host governors who were elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gusau for a strategic meeting.
The goal of the gathering is to set the party’s political course before its national convention.
Sulaiman Bala Idris, Governor Lawal’s spokesperson, said that the governors will arrive in Gusau on Friday night and have a closed-door meeting on Saturday. He also called the meeting a “pivotal” time to improve party unity and plans for important political events.
PDP governors meet in Gusau to plan their next steps
Lawal is going to have supper on friday night before the governors meet for the PDP Governors Forum meeting the next day. Furthermore the main topics of conversation will be important political issues, how to coordinate state-level activities, and how to bring the party together as a whole.
PDP governors are looking at proposals for a national convention
The gathering is also a chance for people to agree on their positions before the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) organizes the party’s national convention, which will be held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15–16, 2025.
The governor of Zamfara is in charge of hosting
Lawal’s hosting of the session puts him in a conspicuous position inside the PDP’s national structure, which further strengthens Zamfara’s position within the party.
The announcement said that the session would let governors “work together on development projects across their states while getting ready for the convention.”
