KEY POINTS

  • Sadiq Abdullahi quits PDP, citing internal crisis.
  • His exit follows that of ex-secretary S.K.E Udeh Okoye.
  • PDP faces mounting instability ahead of elections.

Instability within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepened on Monday after Honourable Sadiq Abdullahi, a member of the House of Representatives, resigned from the opposition party.

Abdullahi, who represents Sabon Gari Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, said persistent infighting and “loss of direction” within the PDP had made it impossible for him to serve his constituents effectively.

His resignation came just hours after former National Secretary S.K.E Udeh Okoye also announced his departure, signalling widening cracks within the party’s leadership structure.

Internal rifts push PDP towards deeper instability

Abdullahi, who serves as Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), conveyed his resignation in a letter addressed to his ward chairman and circulated to journalists on Monday.

Furthermore, he blamed the PDP’s prolonged factional disputes for eroding unity and weakening its political strength. “The persistent PDP internal crisis and factionalisation within the PDP are adversely affecting my ability to represent my constituency and perform optimally,” he said.

According to Abdullahi, his decision followed broad consultations with political associates and community leaders, adding that his goal remains to ensure “purposeful, inclusive, and effective representation” beyond party lines.

Abdullahi’s exit underscores PDP’s loss of direction

The lawmaker expressed gratitude to the PDP for providing him a platform to serve, but said the party’s internal instability had become unsustainable.
“I sincerely thank the PDP for the opportunity to serve. The experiences and support I received were invaluable,” he further said.

His departure, along with Udeh Okoye’s, marks another blow to the party as it struggles to resolve leadership rifts and define a coherent strategy ahead of upcoming elections.
