Nigeria’s armed forces have intensified operations across the nation, documenting a series of confrontations resulting in the fatalities of multiple insurgents, the rescue of several abducted people, and the apprehension of about one hundred suspects within a two-week timeframe. The briefing was presented in Abuja by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Olatokunbo Bello, who stated that the intensity of military operations from November 3 to 14 yielded advancements in many regions.

Nigeria military operations weaken insurgent networks

Bello stated that forces seized a diverse assortment of firearms and ammo during that timeframe. The seizure comprised automatic rifles, machine guns, RPG tubes, domestically manufactured weaponry, and components utilized for constructing improvised explosive devices. He stated that forces also obliterated camps and logistical centers upon which insurgents depended for mobility and provisions.

In the North-East, forces engaged in Operation Hadin Kai conducted continuous operations in Borno and Adamawa States. Forces engaged Boko Haram and ISWAP cells, resulting in the elimination of multiple combatants. Bello reported that troops apprehended 45 informants, collaborators, and logistics providers, and liberated one abducted individual. He characterized the arrests as a component of an ongoing initiative to undermine support networks facilitating the operations of extremist groups.

According to Punch, operations in the North-West, conducted under the aegis of Operation Fagge Yamma, yielded comparable outcomes. Military forces confronted armed factions throughout Sokoto, Zamfara, Niger, Katsina, Kebbi, and Kano States.

In the North-Central area, forces engaged in Operation Enduring Peace reacted to assaults in Plateau and Kaduna States. Bello announced the elimination of extremists, the apprehension of 16 suspects, and the rescue of five abducted individuals. Ibrahim Wakili, one of the accused, was apprehended in the Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State on November 9. Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke conducted operations in Kogi, Kwara, Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States, resulting in the elimination of several offenders, the apprehension of 10 suspects, and the rescue of 48 kidnapped individuals.

Fresh breakthroughs recorded in Nigeria military operations

In the Niger Delta, forces participating in Operation Delta Safe intercepted oil theft amounting to over N15.8 million. Military personnel discovered and dismantled multiple illicit refining operations and apprehended nine alleged oil thieves in Bayelsa and Delta States. Operations in the South-East persisted under Operation Udo Ka, resulting in the elimination of one armed militant and the apprehension of seven suspects during missions in Imo, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River States.

Bello commended the troops’ tenacity and urged the media to continue disseminating reliable information that bolsters national security initiatives.
