A U.S. legislator has commented on the kidnapping of schoolgirls in Kebbi State, contributing an international perspective to the condemnation of the assault on Government Secondary School, Maga, in the Danko-Wasagu region. Moore that he was requesting prayers for the 25 pupils abducted from the school and for the vice principal who was fatally injured during the assault. He stated that the specifics of the occurrence remain scarce but indicated that, according to his comprehension, the assault occurred in a Christian enclave in northern Nigeria. He subsequently urged Nigerian authorities to enhance their response to violent factions, stressing that the government must implement more robust measures to mitigate recurrent assaults in the region.

Armed assailants invaded the school during the early hours of Monday, resulting in the death of the vice principal, injuries to staff members, and the abduction of pupils. The event contributes to a succession of abductions aimed at educational institutions throughout northern Nigeria, where armed factions have intensified their activities in recent years.

Moore’s remarks elicited a rebuttal from Bashir Ahmad, a former Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the late President Muhammadu Buhari. In the comments beneath the lawmaker’s tweet, Ahmad contested the assertion that the incident occurred in a Christian community. He stated that the region is a Muslim community and that the victims were Muslims. He stated that these falsehoods exacerbate misunderstandings regarding Nigeria’s security issues and threaten to intensify tensions in a nation already grappling with religious and ethnic sensitivities.

According to punch, Ahmad’s reaction underscores the persistent tension between Nigerian and U.S. authorities regarding allegations of extensive targeting of Christians in several northern areas. The Federal Government committed to ensuring the release of the kidnapped students. Officials stated that the government empathized with the families’ suffering and was collaborating with security services to ensure the safe return of the girls.
