Obi Accuses Tinubu of Chasing Politics While Violence Rises

Key Points

• Peter Obi warns that rising attacks show a failing security response.
• He accuses the ruling party of fuelling opposition conflicts.
• Obi urges leaders to respect democratic norms and promote unity.

Peter Obi has delivered a sharp criticism of President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress.

He argued that the government is spending more energy on political battles than on keeping Nigerians safe.

Rising attacks fuel concern

Obi posted his remarks on his verified X account. He pointed to a string of deadly incidents and rising tension across the country.

He noted that former United States President Donald Trump recently described Nigeria as disgraced. Obi said the comment angered many people at the time but feels the situation has worsened.

Kidnappings and killings raise pressure

He pointed to the kidnapping of twenty five students and the killing of a senior army officer and other personnel within the same week. He added that fresh violence in Kwara State shows a country under strain.

Obi argued that the ruling party is more focused on stirring trouble within opposition groups than on finding solutions to insecurity.

He referenced disputes in the Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party, Social Democratic Party and other groups. He claimed these conflicts are encouraged by those in power to weaken rivals.

He compared the moment to an experience during the administration of the late President Umaru Musa YarAdua.

Obi recalled that YarAdua urged the then chairman of the electoral commission to protect the stability of every political party. Obi said the former president believed that democracy needed every party to operate within the law without interference.

Call for a more inclusive political climate

He insisted that the current atmosphere shows the opposite. He accused the government of trying to fragment major opposition groups instead of building a more inclusive political climate.

Obi ended his message with a call for a system where opposition is respected and elections reflect public choice. He stressed that broad cooperation remains important for stability and growth.
