Key Points

  • Super Eagles dominated Mozambique from start to finish in a 4–0 win.

  • Osimhen and Lookman led the attack with goals and assists.

  • Nigeria moved into the quarter-finals with confidence and control.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles moved into the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a comfortable 4–0 win over Mozambique on Monday night in Fès.

From the opening minutes, the gap between both sides was obvious. Nigeria played with the assurance of a team that had already won all three group matches.

Mozambique, still finding their feet at this stage of the tournament, spent most of the night chasing shadows.

Early control, early reward

Nigeria’s pressure paid off in the 20th minute. Akor Adams slipped a simple pass to Ademola Lookman, who finished calmly to open the scoring.

Five minutes later, the lead doubled. Victor Osimhen reacted quickly inside the box and turned the ball home after sustained pressure from the Eagles.

Mozambique found it hard to get out of their half. Nigeria kept pushing without rushing.

Game decided after the break

Any chance of a comeback ended almost immediately after halftime. Just two minutes into the second half, Lookman set up Osimhen again. The striker made it 3–0 with a controlled finish.

Nigeria stayed patient. They moved the ball across the pitch and waited for spaces to open.

The fourth goal came in the 75th minute. Akor Adams got on the end of a close-range chance to complete a strong night for the Eagles.

Solid all round performance

Wilfred Ndidi led the midfield with Frank Onyeka and Alex Iwobi offering support. At the back, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey, and Bruno Onyemaechi kept Mozambique quiet.

Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali was hardly tested. By the 80th minute, Nigeria had eight shots on target. Mozambique had none.

With the game already settled, the coaching crew made changes. Paul Onuachu, Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon, Tom Dele-Bashiru, and Raphael Onyedika all came on to see out the match.

Nigeria never lost control.

What comes next

The win keeps Nigeria’s strong run going at the tournament. The Super Eagles will now face the winner of the match between Algeria and DR Congo in the quarter-finals.

The test will be tougher. For now, Nigeria moves on with confidence.
