Troops of the Joint Task Force of the Nigerian Army, operating under Operation HADIN KAI, successfully neutralized Abu Khalid, the deputy commander of Boko Haram in the Sambisa Forest, along with 10 other terrorists during a night operation in Borno State.
The operation, conducted around 11:00 p.m. on Saturday in the Komala area of Konduga Local Government, was carried out by Sector 1 troops in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force under Operation DESERT SANITY.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Abu Khalid played a central role in coordinating Boko Haram’s operations and logistics within the Sambisa axis.
The military described him as a high-ranking figure whose elimination will disrupt terrorist activities in the region. This success comes less than 24 hours after another notorious Boko Haram/ISWAP commander, Julaibib, was killed in the Gujba axis of the Timbuktu Triangle.
Arms, Equipment, and Morale Boost for Troops
Following the engagement, the troops recovered five AK-47 rifles, ammunition magazines, bicycles, assorted logistics, food items, and significant medical supplies. No casualties were recorded among the Nigerian forces.
The Joint Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to continue clearance operations across Sambisa Forest, Mandara Mountains, Timbuktu Triangle, and other terrorist hideouts to restore lasting peace and economic stability in the North East.
The Military High Command praised the troops for their dedication and sacrifices in combating terrorism and other criminal activities.
Officers were urged to maintain operational momentum as Nigeria intensifies efforts to eradicate Boko Haram and ISWAP networks from the region.
