Tinubu Appoints Adesayo Micheal as New NEMSA Boss

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Engr. Adesayo Olusegun Michael as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency, NEMSA, a key regulatory body responsible for ensuring technical standards and safety across Nigeria’s electricity sector.

The announcement was made in an official statement released Tuesday by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, confirming that the appointment is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership within strategic government institutions tied to infrastructure and national development.

Michael’s appointment has already drawn support from stakeholders in the consumer advocacy space.

The National President of the Nigeria Consumer Protection Network, Kunle Olubiyo, described the new NEMSA boss as well suited for the role, stating simply that he is “fit for the purpose,” suggesting confidence in his professional competence and industry experience.

Board Members Named to Support Agency Oversight

Alongside Micheal, the new chief executive, the president also approved the constitution of NEMSA’s board, appointing representatives from different geopolitical zones to ensure balanced oversight and inclusive representation.

  • Ikechi Clara Nwosu — Chairman (South East)
  • Zubair Abdur’rauf Idris — Member
  • Igba Elizabeth — Member (North Central)
  • Sani Alhaji Shehu — Member (North East)
  • Adeyemi Adetunji — Member (South West)
  • Engr. Emmanuel Eneji Nkpe — Member (South South)
  • Engr. Charles Ogbonna Asogwa — Member (South East)

The appointments are expected to strengthen institutional governance, technical supervision, and compliance enforcement within Nigeria’s power sector.
