Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has approved the release of more than 90 inmates imprisoned for minor offences after settling their fines and compensation obligations.

The state government explained that the decision was a deliberate act of mercy tied to the spiritual significance of both Ramadan and the Christian Lenten season—periods traditionally associated with repentance, compassion, and renewal.

According to the Commissioner for Information, Ahmed Maiyaki, the intervention by Sani was designed not only to ease prison congestion but also to offer deserving inmates a second chance at life, reconciliation with society, and an opportunity to rebuild their futures.

Governor Sani urged beneficiaries of the pardon to take advantage of the opportunity by embracing peace, seeking forgiveness where necessary, and committing themselves to lawful and productive lives. He encouraged them to become responsible citizens devoted to service, integrity, and respect for the rule of law.

Sani stressed that true freedom must be accompanied by a transformation of character, noting that both Ramadan and Lent teach discipline, humility, and spiritual growth.

Ramadan Message to Muslims by Sani

In a goodwill message marking the start of Ramadan, the governor extended greetings to Muslims in Kaduna, across Nigeria, and worldwide. Sani described the holy month as a sacred pillar of faith that purifies the soul and strengthens spiritual devotion.

He emphasized that fasting goes beyond abstaining from food and drink, calling it “a school of character and a sanctuary for the heart” that inspires believers to deepen faith, increase charity, and strengthen bonds of brotherhood.

Governor Sani encouraged residents to support vulnerable members of society by sharing meals, resources, and acts of kindness, noting that such gestures reinforce human dignity and social unity.

He also urged citizens of all faiths to pray for peace and stability in the state, highlighting that Kaduna’s diversity is a source of strength rather than division.
