KEY POINTS

  • Innoson employs 8,000 workers nationwide.
  • Innoson expansion will also add 2,000 new jobs.
  • New tractor plant planned in Nsukka.

Innoson Group employs about 8,000 workers across Nigeria and plans to add 2,000 more as new production facilities come onstream, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Innocent Chukwuma said.

Chukwuma disclosed the figures after hosting executives of the Bank of Industry at the company’s vehicle manufacturing complex in Nnewi, Anambra State. He said headcount will rise once a new factory under development begins operations and also additional production lines reach full capacity. According to Billionaires Africa, the expansion underscores Innoson’s push to scale domestic manufacturing amid renewed emphasis on local industry and import substitution.

Innoson Expansion Drives Job Growth

Chukwuma said the company’s long-term strategy centers on youth employment and skills development through manufacturing. Increasing local production capacity, he further added, would support job creation and strengthen Nigeria’s industrial base.

On workforce structure, he noted that women are deployed to sections of the factory that require strict compliance with operational procedures. According to him, women have demonstrated consistency and precision in technical roles after receiving appropriate training.

The company’s expansion plans further extend beyond automobiles. Chukwuma said Innoson is establishing a tractor manufacturing plant at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, aimed at improving farmers’ access to mechanized equipment.

Bank of Industry Backs Innoson Expansion

Furthermore, Chukwuma credited the Bank of Industry with supporting equipment acquisition and growth initiatives for more than two decades. Mallam Omar Shekarau, the bank’s executive director for large enterprises, described Innoson’s trajectory as an example of domestic enterprise development.

Shekarau also said the lender would continue to support the manufacturer and encouraged greater patronage of locally produced vehicles to stimulate economic activity.

In conclusion, with new projects in automotive and agricultural equipment manufacturing, Chukwuma said Innoson expansion efforts are designed to deepen self-reliance in key industrial sectors and sustain employment growth.
