The Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Tuesday clarified that AMNI International Petroleum Development Company Limited is not in receivership, as it adjourned proceedings in its dispute with Cenroc FPSO Solutions Nigeria Ltd.

Justice Aneke made the clarification in Suit No. FHC/L/CS/1454/25 after counsel representing the court-appointed administrator described himself as appearing for a receiver or receiver-manager. The judge corrected the record, stressing that the court had appointed only an administrator.

The clarification shaped the day’s proceedings in what has become an AMNI receivership dispute over commercial claims between the two companies.

AMNI Receivership Dispute Clarified

The matter came up on AMNI’s motion seeking a stay of execution of an earlier ruling that appointed the administrator. AMNI has filed a Notice of Appeal challenging that decision, arguing that the disagreement arises from routine commercial contracts and does not amount to insolvency.

Counsel for AMNI told the court that despite being served with the Notice of Appeal and the stay application, the administrator allegedly took steps to enforce the ruling. The company claimed those actions included engaging law enforcement authorities and contacting third parties without involving court bailiffs.

Justice Aneke cautioned the administrator and his legal team against taking enforcement or extrajudicial steps while the stay application remains pending. He directed all parties to comply strictly with court procedures until a ruling is delivered.

Stay of Execution Ruling Pending

The court fixed February 26, 2026, to decide whether to suspend execution of its earlier order appointing the administrator.

Separately, AMNI has initiated contempt proceedings against the administrator, arguing that he took certain actions despite the pending appeal and the court’s caution.

The company maintains that the court has not appointed a receiver and says it continues to operate in the ordinary course of business. Lawyers representing AMNI declined further comment, citing the ongoing proceedings.
