KEY POINTS

  • President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Olatunji Disu as Nigeria’s new Inspector-General of Police.
  • The ceremony took place at the State House in Abuja before the Federal Executive Council meeting.
  • Disu succeeds former IGP Kayode Egbetokun, who resigned from the position.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday formally swore in Olatunji Disu as the new Inspector-General of Police, marking the official start of his tenure as the head of the Nigeria Police Force.

The swearing-in ceremony took place inside the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja shortly before the weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council.

The event drew top government officials and dignitaries, including Vice President Kashim Shettima and several cabinet members.

During the ceremony, the State House Director of Information and Public Relations, Mr. Abiodun Oladunjoye, read the official citation of the new police chief. Disu then took the oath of office administered by President Tinubu, formally assuming the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force.

The brief ceremony was held shortly before the commencement of the Federal Executive Council meeting.

Disu’s Appointment Follows Egbetokun’s Exit

Disu’s elevation to the country’s top policing position follows the resignation of the former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

President Tinubu had earlier appointed Disu to the role on February 24, before formally decorating him with the rank of Inspector-General the following day.

His confirmation and swearing-in complete the transition in the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force.

In addition to the new police chief, the president also administered the oath of office to newly appointed commissioners of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission and the Federal Civil Service Commission.

The swearing-in was conducted just ahead of the Federal Executive Council session, where key government policy matters are typically discussed.
