  • Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Fintiri imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde LGA following renewed violent clashes.
  • The curfew is linked to the ongoing conflict between the Chobo and Bachaman communities, marking the fourth such restriction in six months.
  • Security agencies have been ordered to enforce the curfew strictly, while residents are urged to cooperate to restore peace.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area following fresh outbreaks of violence between rival communities in the area.

The curfew, which takes effect immediately, was announced on Monday in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou.

According to the statement, the decision was taken after renewed clashes reportedly resulted in the loss of lives and disruption of peace in some affected communities.

The state government said the curfew is aimed at preventing further escalation of violence and allowing security agencies to restore calm in the troubled area.

Recurring Crisis Between Chobo and Bachaman Communities

Authorities noted that the latest curfew marks the fourth time in less than six months that such restrictions have been imposed in Lamurde LGA.

The repeated security measure stems from the long-standing conflict between the Chobo and Bachaman communities, which has triggered periodic outbreaks of violence in the region.

Officials say the clashes have continued to threaten lives, property, and social stability, forcing the government to intervene repeatedly through curfews and heightened security deployment.

Security Agencies Ordered to Enforce Curfew Strictly

Governor Fintiri described the renewed violence as unacceptable and directed security agencies to strictly enforce the curfew across the local government area.

The government warned that any individual or group found violating the directive would face arrest and prosecution in accordance with the law.

Security personnel have also been instructed to maintain constant surveillance and ensure law and order while the restriction remains in force.

The Adamawa State Government stated that the 24-hour curfew will remain in effect until further notice, depending on the security situation in the area.

Residents have been urged to comply fully with the directive and avoid actions capable of worsening tensions.

Governor Fintiri also appealed to members of the public to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could help restore peace and prevent further violence.
