Vice President Alhaji Kashim Shettima on Wednesday visited victims of the recent bomb blasts in Maiduguri, northern Borno State, offering condolences to families and the local community.

Accompanied by Hajiya Zubaida Umar, Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Shettima toured affected areas including the Post Office, Monday Market, and the main entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), sites of the triple suicide attacks on Monday.

Speaking to journalists, Shettima expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives, saying, “We are here to commiserate with the Government, the people of Borno State, and the North East, especially families of those who lost their loved ones. It is a tragedy that no religion sanctions such killings of the innocent.”

Shettima Assures Determined Action Against Boko Haram

The Vice President condemned the attacks, describing the perpetrators as outside the realm of humanity and vowing the federal government’s commitment to restoring peace. “This madness called Boko Haram would not live to see the light of day,” he said. Shettima reiterated that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would continue efforts to restore security and stability across Nigeria.

He also reassured residents with a message of hope, stating, “No matter how long the night is, it must give way to the light of the dawn.”

Shettima highlighted the immediate government response, emphasizing the role of NEMA and other agencies in providing relief. “Through NEMA and the North East Development Commission (NEDC), as well as support from the Deputy Governor representing Governor Babagana Zulum, we are committed to rendering the necessary aid,” he said.

The Vice President further confirmed that distribution of medical consumables and relief items to victims and their families would begin on Thursday, signaling swift government intervention to alleviate the suffering caused by the attacks.
