  • Initiative aims to create 500,000 jobs across the Niger Delta
  • Port Harcourt summit set to drive investment and industrial growth

The Niger Delta Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Trade, Mines and Agriculture says it aims to attract up to $5 billion in structured investments into the region over the next five years.

The chamber said the push could generate at least 500,000 direct and indirect jobs, as it works to expand economic activity beyond oil.

Chairman Amb. Idaere Gogo Ogan spoke at a pre-summit briefing in Port Harcourt ahead of the Niger Delta Economic and Investment Summit scheduled for May 19 to 21.

Summit to focus on growth and coordination

The summit, themed “Driving Investment, Innovation, and Industrial Growth in the Niger Delta,” will center on mobilizing capital, supporting businesses and strengthening regional coordination.

President Bola Tinubu is expected to attend as special guest, while Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley will deliver the keynote address.

Ogan said recent engagements, including a Niger Delta Business Roundtable, brought together policymakers, investors and development partners from across the nine oil-producing states.

He said the outcome was clear. Stakeholders want a shift from planning to execution.

Push to unlock untapped potential

Dr. Solomon Edebiri, the chamber’s secretary and chairman of the summit’s local organizing committee, described the gathering as part of a broader plan to reposition the region.

He said the Niger Delta’s economic story has long been tied to oil and gas, but its wider potential remains underdeveloped.

According to him, the summit will spotlight opportunities across sectors and encourage long-term, sustainable industrial growth.

Organizers have also lined up roadshows across the Niger Delta, Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory to draw investors and build momentum ahead of the event.
