KEY POINTS

  • Nigeria’s Samson Adamu has been appointed Acting General Secretary of CAF following Véron Mosengo-Omba’s departure.
  • Adamu previously served as CAF Director of Competitions and founded the internationally recognized Copa Lagos Futsal tournament.
  • His appointment comes amid a transitional period as CAF navigates leadership changes and governance reforms.

Nigeria’s Samson Adamu has been appointed Acting General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football with immediate effect, following the departure of Véron Mosengo‑Omba.

Top CAF sources confirmed the development on Sunday, noting that Adamu will assume the administrative leadership role after Mosengo-Omba stepped down amid ongoing transition discussions and internal pressure within the continental football governing body.

Mosengo-Omba, a Congolese lawyer, was appointed General Secretary in March 2021 after serving at FIFA as Chief Member Associations Officer. His exit represents another significant leadership shift within African football administration.

Adamu Steps In During Transition Period

Adamu, who has served as CAF Director of Competitions since 2018, is expected to oversee the organisation’s administrative affairs in an acting capacity while broader governance discussions continue.

Before joining CAF, he founded and led the Copa Lagos Futsal tournament, which gained international recognition and attracted participation from global football stakeholders.

Within CAF, Adamu has built a reputation as a visible and effective administrator, earning commendation for his role in competition management and operational delivery across major continental tournaments.

His growing profile within the organisation had already positioned him among potential candidates for senior leadership responsibilities.

The appointment now places him at the centre of CAF’s transitional leadership phase as the body continues to navigate governance adjustments and organisational reforms.
