Gunmen have abducted a 47-year-old driver with Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Health, identified as Sunday Ani, from his residence at Grow Homes Estate in Abuja.

The incident reportedly occurred around 2 a.m. on March 29, when the attackers stormed the estate and took the victim to an unknown destination. His whereabouts remain unknown as of the time of filing this report.

Sources said no ransom demand has been made since the abduction, while security agencies are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident. Efforts to locate the victim are reportedly ongoing.

The kidnapping adds to growing security concerns in the Federal Capital Territory and other parts of the country, where cases of abduction for ransom have continued to rise.

Kidnapping trend raises insecurity concerns

Recent data indicates that between 2024 and 2025, Nigerians paid about ₦2.57 billion in ransoms, while kidnappers reportedly demanded as much as ₦48 billion within the same period. The latest abduction further highlights the persistent threat posed by criminal gangs targeting residents.

The growing scale of the payments, alongside continued attacks on residents, underscores deepening insecurity concerns and the persistent threat posed by criminal groups targeting homes and communities.
