President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to inaugurate the Opebi–Mende Link Bridge in Lagos this week, marking the completion of a major infrastructure project designed to enhance connectivity and reduce traffic congestion across key parts of the state.

The strategic bridge project, executed through a collaboration between the Lagos State Ministries of Transportation and Works, links Opebi in Ikeja to Mende in Maryland.

The new connection is expected to provide motorists with an alternative route and significantly reduce travel time across some of Lagos’ busiest corridors.

Alternative Route to Decongest Busy Traffic Corridors

Officials say the Opebi–Mende Link Bridge will help ease pressure on heavily congested routes including Allen Avenue, Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, and Ikorodu Road.

These corridors are among the most frequently used by commuters moving between Ikeja, Maryland, and other adjoining areas.

By offering an additional crossing, the project is expected to redistribute traffic flow, reduce bottlenecks during peak hours, and improve overall transportation efficiency within the metropolis.

The Lagos State Government has described the bridge as a “transformational and strategic” infrastructure initiative aimed at improving mobility, reducing commuting stress, and supporting economic growth in the state.

According to officials, the project will not only enhance road connectivity but also boost commercial activities in surrounding communities by improving access for businesses, residents, and logistics operations.

The Opebi–Mende Link Bridge is expected to serve as a vital alternative route for thousands of daily commuters and contribute to the broader effort to modernize Lagos’ transport infrastructure and address persistent traffic challenges.
