The Ogun State Government has announced plans to prosecute Abubakar Adamu, the driver of a stationary truck linked to the December 2025 crash that claimed the lives of two associates of Anthony Joshua.
During court proceedings on Thursday, Ogun State Senior Counsel D.O. Ogunyomi formally took over the case involving Adeniyi Kayode, the driver of the Lexus SUV conveying Joshua and his companions. Ogunyomi urged the court to consolidate charges against both Adamu and Kayode, arguing that their actions were interconnected in the circumstances that led to the fatal incident.
Magistrate Olufunmilayo Somefun granted the request, approving a joint trial for the two drivers. The matter has now been adjourned until June 2, 2026, for further hearing.
DPP Recommends Charges Against SUV Driver
Legal advice issued by the Ogun State Department of Public Prosecution (DPP), and presented in court, recommended that Kayode be prosecuted for reckless driving. This is in addition to the charges expected to be filed against the truck driver, Adamu.
Kayode had earlier been arraigned by the police on a four-count charge bordering on dangerous driving causing death, as well as reckless and negligent driving. The case was subsequently referred to the DPP for legal guidance.
The tragic incident occurred on December 29, 2025, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near the Sinoma area of Sagamu. The Lexus SUV carrying Joshua and his associates reportedly rammed into a stationary truck while en route from Lagos to Sagamu.
