KEY POINTS

  • APC stakeholders in Rivers purchased 2027 nomination forms for Governor Fubara.
  • The move was led by Abiante, who said it reflects public support and a desire for continuity.
  • The governor was not involved; supporters say the decision was voluntary and people-driven.

A group of All Progressives Congress, APC, stakeholders in Rivers State has bought the expression of interest and nomination forms for Governor Siminalayi Fubara ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The delegation was led by Awaji-Inombek Abiante, a member of the House of Representatives, who said the decision was taken in what they described as the best interest of Rivers people.

Abiante explained that the move reflects a common democratic practice where political stakeholders support candidates they believe in by purchasing nomination forms.

He stressed that the action was driven by public confidence in the governor’s performance rather than money or personal gain. According to him, residents of the state are calling for continuity in leadership.

Performance Cited as Key Reason

The group pointed to Fubara’s achievements in office, including improved infrastructure, better access to riverine communities, and the rehabilitation of key government facilities.

They also highlighted growing economic opportunities, especially in the blue economy, as part of the governor’s impact.

Abiante clarified that the governor did not request or influence the purchase of the forms, describing it as a voluntary move by supporters.

He added that the forms were bought through contributions from concerned stakeholders and are scheduled to be formally presented to Fubara on May 1.
