KEY POINTS

  • Aisha Yesufu has resigned from the ADC and joined the NDC alongside Peter Obi.
  • She announced plans to contest for the FCT senatorial seat in the 2027 elections.
  • Yesufu said her defection reflects her continued commitment to Obi’s political vision for Nigeria.

Popular activist and political advocate Aisha Yesufu has resigned from the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and officially joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.

Yesufu announced her defection in a statement shared on her X account, where she explained that her decision was influenced by what she described as a clearer understanding of Nigeria’s political future.

According to her, the move also reflects her continued support and political alignment with former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, who recently left the ADC for the NDC.

In her statement, Yesufu described Peter Obi as a symbol of hope and aspiration for Nigerians seeking a better country.

She said Obi currently represents the kind of leadership capable of building a functional and progressive Nigeria.

“The next couple of days will define the future of this nation. This deeper understanding is why I resigned from the ADC to join the NDC as I follow the leadership of HE Peter Obi,” she stated.

Her comments come amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with several politicians and supporters moving between opposition parties.

Defection Linked To Earlier Commitment

Yesufu explained that her political journey into the ADC was originally motivated by her support for Peter Obi.

According to her, leaving the ADC for the NDC is simply a continuation of the same political commitment she made earlier.

“When I give my word, I keep it. My decision to support HE Peter Obi first led me to the ADC. To continue to honour the promise I am joining the NDC,” she added.

Her remarks suggest that loyalty to Obi’s political direction played a major role in her latest decision.

Beyond announcing her defection, Yesufu also revealed plans to contest for the Federal Capital Territory senatorial seat in the 2027 elections under the platform of the NDC.

She said her new political move is not only about party membership but also about directly participating in governance and representation.

“This time I am joining the NDC not just as a member but as one running for the FCT Senatorial seat,” she said.

The declaration officially positions the activist among the growing list of aspirants preparing for the next election cycle.
